Barley Straw Bales: In recent years the use of barley straw has become an increasingly popular way to improve water clarity in ponds and water features. This technique, however, is actually a
tried and true technique that has been used in Europe and other parts of the world for many years. When properly applied, naturally occurring organisms decompose the lignins in the barley, releasing humic substances (dissolved organic carbon) into the water. In the presence of sunlight and oxygen, those compounds are converted into low levels of hydrogen peroxide. The hydrogen peroxide is the component that modifies the pond chemistry to improve water clarity.
Barley straw typically provides results for three to four months. Apply second treatment three to four weeks before first treatment is done to ensure no interruption in control.

Pond Salt:  Salt is essential for fish health. Koi and goldfish need salt to control their electrolyte balance. Salt also maintains the natural slime coating fish need to fight off fungus and disease. *Use one to two pounds per 100 gallons of pond water under normal conditions. Use three pounds per 100 gallons when treating for disease. 2% salt will not harm plants.

Activated Carbon:  Activated carbon has long been used for filtration media when super clean water is desired. Carbon has the natural ability to absorb high amounts of organic solids as chemicals or pesticides that may go into pond water. Carbon will also absorb medications
used on fish. After treatment is complete, add carbon to tank or pond to remove left over chemicals or medications. Activated carbon has also been shown to have the ability to remove tannins that cause “tea-colored” water. Barley straw is another product that can discolor water. Carbon will also remove this color. Use approximately 11/2 cupfuls for every 100 gallons of pond water. Place in mesh bag  and set in moving water (in a pond skimmer or AquaFalls is a good location). Replace carbon every four to five weeks as needed.

Zeolite:  Use Zeolite to remove harmful ammonia from watergardens, fish tanks, fish hauling trucks, etc. Ammonia is the by-product of fish waste, and at high levels is toxic to fish. Pond water should be checked for ammonia on a regular basis. A healthy biofilter will typically
remove the ammonia from the water but in a new pond where the filter has not colonized or if too
many fish are added at one time, an ammonia spike may happen. Zeolite is like a sponge, absorbing harmful ammonia before it can cause fish loss. Zeolite can be cleaned by dipping in salt water and reused again. One pound of Zeolite will remove approximately three ppm ammonia from 100 gallons of water.

Lily Grow:  Tetra Pond Lily Gro is the perfect complement to any potted plant. It is an in-season
tablet fertilizer for lilies and other aquatic plants. It is formulated for regular use during the growth season and maximizes beauty, color and growth. For hardy water lilies, marginal and bog plants use once a month during growing season.

Pond Acid Buffer: Proper PH is critical to obtaining good results when using a wide variety of water treatments such as Baraclear, The Water Wych, Algaefix, Microbelift Bacteria and others. If the PH is high (usually over 8.5 or higher) many of the products will not perform as desired. Pond Acid Buffer is the best product we have found at lowering the PH. Dosage rate varies since the hardness of the water greatly affects how easy the PH can be lowered. Hard water is much more difficult to lower PH in than soft water is - so it would take more buffer to achieve results. Granular product is easy to store and apply.

Water Wych: The Water Wych is a revolutionary new way to keep ponds clear and
greatly reduce algae problems. Algae grows off minerals and nutrients found in pond water. The
Water Wych is a natural blend of volcanic rocks, carbons and silicates which absorb large amounts of nutrients and minerals from the water thereby greatly reducing the available "food" that algae needs to thrive. The Water Wych is a self contained filter that simply sits submerged in the pond, for best results place in an area of flowing water. Once the organic materials in the Water Wych have absorbed all the minerals and nutrients they can, they can be used as fertilizer. Typically the Water Wych will need replacing every six to nine months.
