Weeds Gotcha Down?

Fight Back with Water Treatments

Need some advise - send us a sample of your weeds...

Excessive growth of aquatic weeds is something most pond owners are forced to deal with sooner or later.  Because most ponds are dug in low areas they are a natural catch basin for runoff.  Fertilizers and road run off can cause alot of weed growth problems especially when the pond is located in a low layng area. Overtime the nutrients and fertilizers that are carried in by the runoff causes excessive weed growth.  The most effective way to control weeds is by the use of chemicals.

The first thing that needs to be done is to identify the weed that you would like to control.  The best way to do this to purchase our water, weeds and algae book or send us a sample of your weed.  The best way to send a sample is to wrap the weed in a wet paper towel (No Water Please) and place it in a zip lock baggie, include your name and phone number or email address and we will contact you with the names of your weeds and the best course of treatment.   Please try to get sample to us within three days of taking it from your pond to allow for better identification.  Mail to:  The Pond Warehouse,  10301 mountain View Tr., Stanwood, MI 49346

There are some preventative measures you can take when trying to reduce algae and weed control.  The use of pond dyes, aeration, and bacteria all help reduce or slow done growth.  Pond  dyes work on light reduction,  all plant need sunlight to grow reduce the amount of sunlight penetrating the water reduce the growth of algae and weed growth.  Early in the season is the best time to apply the dyes, simply pour the liquid dye in the pond the dye will completely mix through the pond within a short time.  The dyes is not meant to completely stop growth but will reduce it.  Aeration and use of bacteria along with water dyes will help maintain a cleaner pond.

We like to think there are three types of weed problems associated with ponds. First being Cattails, reeds, and tall grass can add to the beauty of a pond but can become a nuisance if not controlled.  We have chemical to kill off any emergent weed that is giving you a problem.  They are easy to use simply mix with water and spray all of the emergent area.  Second type is floating algae and bottom growing algae.  Algae is one of the most common problems for pond owners.  Often pond owners try to rake or pull out algae from their pond only to have it come back a few days later. Chemical control is the best Way to get rid of algae.  Algae control comes in liquid or granular form.  Liquid products should be used when algae is floating on the surface or in shallow water up to 3'.  Granular control should be used in deeper water or for bottom growing algae and Chara.  Third type is emergent aquatic plants.  These weeds grow under the water or float on or near the surface of the pond.  Again we can not emphasize the need for identification enough.  Most chemicals on the market are weed specific and will not kill off all the weeds in a pond.  However there are a few chemicals that we carry that will treat a wide range of plants.  The wide range chemical prices may seem higher, however they eliminate the need for multiple chemicals to be used and they often provide multiple year control.

Chemical Laws. Chemical laws are enforced by the Federal Government. We can not ship chemicals to the following states.  CT, MA, NJ, ME, NY, MD, CA, WA
